Educational Consulting

17038626252020 isn’t the problem.

The pandemic in 2020 didn’t make education a more complex field. It simply brought all the challenges we knew already existed to the forefront and exasperated them.

It highlighted the disparities in our education systems between schools in the city and the county. It showed how access to the Internet and stable housing impact a student’s ability to learn, let alone attend school. It highlighted the importance of social-emotional learning and mental health initiatives in classrooms.

Doing nothing won’t change anything.

For too long, schools have neglected to provide social-emotional learning opportunities to students, staff and families. Schools historically have been thought of as places where students learn academic content to prepare for college and beyond.

Schools are a place where students spend almost a third of their daily life. Places where they get meals, make friends and grow into the people they will become.

Our responsibility is to ensure students are academically, socially and emotionally prepared for life. To teach them how to navigate conflict, manage feelings, cope with stress and so much more.

That’s where I come in.

With over ten years of experience in K-12 urban education as a School Counselor and Manager of Mental Health, I understand the current difficulties within our systems.

I have experience building mental health-specific strategic plans to deliver professional development for teachers, mental health professionals, school leadership members or staff members.

  • Mental Health Strategic Planning: Most organizations have a strategic plan for their general direction. But only a few places think about strategic planning for mental health. Whether it’s reviewing something your team has already been working on or helping you start from scratch, we should be just as intentional about mental health planning as we are about everything else.
  • Professional Development: I can provide professional development sessions for teachers, mental health professionals or other school leadership members. Sessions are curated for your organization and can cover most mental health or social-emotional topics.
  • Process Groups: One thing I have learned over the last two years is that everyone is having a hard time. Often, in the social services and education fields, we see a lot of burnout from adults that are over-extended in their work. I can provide process groups for staff experiencing second-hand trauma from working with high-needs populations.
